Emily Taggart is the name behind Denbies, having taken over the reins from Lisa Potter. Lisa remains very much a part of the yard, available for clinics and specialises in buying and selling top quality horses. She also provides show jumping and flatwork training to a number of existing liveries and staff.
So who is Emily .......
I have grown up with horses, first sitting on a horse at the age of 4. Throughout the years I have never taken a break from riding. My passion for eventing began at a relatively young age when I would accompany my mum to events and it was clear then that horses and eventing was going to be top of my agenda.
How did Denbies come about.....
I moved my horse to Denbies in January 2009 having decided that I needed more time to work on my new business "Equine Grooms" and keep my full time job in IT. Myself and Lisa whom I take over from in Jan 2011 built up a solid partnership and in 2010 I was asked to compete a young potential event horse who she had originally bought for showing. It was through him that we spent a lot of time together and in the summer of 2010 Lisa asked me if I would be interested in taking over Denbies as after 8 years she felt she wanted to move on to other things and possibly move away.
Why Denbies....
I had quietly started looking at yards to rent and had spoken to Lisa about my plans. I knew i wanted to get out of IT as ultimately I am an outdoors girl, I hate being stuck indoors and you'll rarely see me sitting around doing nothing. When Denbies was offered to me I jumped at the chance. The location is perfect, it's in idyllic surroundings, close to London by car and rail and has the most fantastic hacking. Second to that the facilities were already in place, a lovely 20x40 sand/rubber arena, 30+ acres of grazing and all the essentials. The serious advantage was that the yard already had a great client base and i knew the majority of the liveries really well and I hoped they would realise i could bring some fresh energy to the yard.
Goals, ambitions for 2011....
I have high hopes for 2011 in many ways. As far as Denbies is concerned I am planning to make a few tweaks here and there, add some rubber to the sand school so freezing is less likely, get some quotes to have it extended and make sure the team are working efficiently as possible and ultimately the horses and owners are happy.
I also plan to be out eventing again, hopefully I will have Louis to run round some intros early next year for Claire. We have some lovely horses on the yard to compete and sale. I have my eye on a lovely 4 year old that i am hoping will still be for sale. I also welcome any new riders for 2011.
The aim....to be successful in everything I do and to climb the eventing ladder.
